What Can We DO?

As we learn more about the tragedies of AIDS, and the sex trade in general we have to ask ourselves what can we do to help stop it? Obviously the most overt reason would be to promote safe sex, and the use of condoms. As Canadian citizens I do believe we receive these positive messages about safe sex, but is that enough? I propose we have a stronger sex education in high schools, as it is important to teach teenagers the importance of safe sex. Yes we do have sex education is Canada currently but its very basic, and often so out-dated that it is never taken seriously. Besides promoting safe sex, there are many charities and foundations, that you can donate to that will use that money in research funds to try and find a medical solution to AIDS.

Aids in the Sex Trade

Commercial sex is one of the main drivers of the AIDS epidemic. Sex workers and their clients are more likely to be exposed to HIV. The clients then bring the infection home to their wives or other sex partners.

An Interesting and Sad Article I found in regards to aids in the sex trade:

Concerns have been raised that Nepali women who were forced into the sex trade could be returning with Aids in large numbers.

A study released in the Journal of the American Medical Association revealed that around two-fifths of the girls who were trafficked abroad and return to the country have HIV.

Although only 287 ladies were tested, it is believed to be indicative of a wider problem. These sex slaves, some aged 14 and under, are often not welcomed by their families upon returning and are forced to resort to further prostitution.

AIDS

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a disease of the human immune system caused by the human immunodeficiency (HIV). AIDS is a major heath problem across the world, and continues to be a growing issue in Canada. In 2007, it was estimated that 33.2 million people lived with the disease worldwide, and that AIDS killed an estimated 2.1 million people, including 330,000 children.

This transmission can be exchanged via anal, vaginal or oral sex ,blood transfusion, contaminated needles , exchange between mother and baby during pregnancy, childbirth , or breastfeeding.

AIDS is a growing pandemic that continues to have no known cure to man. Although there is a treatment called antiretroviral that is used reduces both the mortality and the morbidity of HIV infection.Due to the difficulty in treating HIV infection, preventing infection is a key aim in controlling the AIDS pandemic
